A 10th level or higher magic-user can create a wax golem with a limited wish spell, polymorph other spell, and geas spell. It can also be created using a magical tome. The cost in materials is 500 gold pieces per hit point of the golem. It takes 1 week to shape the golem of wax.

The creator of the wax golem commands it and it can follow simple commands with simple triggers like other golems. Also like flesh and clay golems, the wax golem has a chance to go berserk when engaged in melee. This chance is 5% cumulative per round of melee . In its berserk state it cannot be controlled and attacks anything in sight. Its master has a 25% per melee round chance of regaining control of the golem.

The wax golem attacks as a 5 HD creature. It can move through gaps as small as 6 inches by 1 foot at a speed of 1″.

Wax golems are not affected by most spells, but fire-based spells deal normal damage and cause the golem to immediately go berserk. Cold-based spells deal no damage, but prevent the golem from squeezing through small gaps and slow it by 50% for 2-8 melee rounds.

I see a mage who just can’t wait any longer to be making this kind of golem despite its great weakness. I also see the players being extremely disappointed upon finding a manual for its creation.
