The Book of Jex-Chapter 14

Having returned to Waterdeep, entrusted to find King Heckaton, we rejoined Delsaphine at her flying ship to entreat her to carry us to Yartar to revisit the casino ship we had visited with our dragon friend Felogolos chasing the token the giant quen believes is connected to the disappearance of her father. She unveiled to us that the man who owns the ship, Dryland, can probably tell us the most about the Kraken Society, who probably took King Heckaton.

And it came to pass, that as we arrived in Yartar, I took upon myself a disguise, as much, in my ignorance, to hide my deception from Torm as to hide my identity from those hiring for work on the Grand Dame. For behold, I intended to hire on as a dealer to be more free to move about the ship. And lo, with Torm’s veil upon me, I was hired onto the crew. Brother Gregori and Aavon also hired onto the crew as oarsmen to be on hand in case I needed aide. Yea, and D’rik our elf companion did borrow my Cloak of the Manta Ray to swim beside the boat and whisper to us by magic to coordinate our movements.

And behold, with Torm illuminating my vision to look beyond walls and the help of my raven, we were able to locate Dryland in his office. With the vision of his familiar, D’rik cast sleep upon our target as I moved toward his office on my break. And behold, once he was asleep, I entered and, casting fly, carried him out through the window and toward the shore. Fear of falling kept him from resisting until we made it to shore, but once there D’rik and I had to restrain him by force.

And it came to pass that we did rejoin our rowing companions, who returned early with the ship when Dryland’s disappearance was noticed. Raising only a little suspicion themselves (for also being on their first night) they rejoined us at Delsaphine’s ship. We questioned Dryland as we flew away, learning from him that the Kraken Society was holding King Heckaton near the Purple Rocks in the Trackless Sea. But now, the dark tentacles of the Kraken struck out, killing our cooperative prisoner before we could release him.

So it was that we carried on toward the coast, ready to fly out over the sea and find King Heckaton upon the Morkoth.

My character, Jex, is a Half-elf Celestial Warlock with the Urchin background. The Book of Jex will be the story of his spiritual journey from being a chaotic neutral street denizen doing whatever it takes to survive to becoming a noble and courageous servant of Torm willing to give his life for the greater good.
