Wendigo are the twisted forms of evil men who perish of cold or of hunger in the wilderness, usually after being ostracized from a society where they might have found shelter if not for their evil deeds. They seek revenge on the living who venture into the wilds that they now call home.
Wendigo make two claw attacks and one attack with their horns. If the horn attack succeeds with a die roll of 20, the wendigo has gored the target. While gored, the target cannot move, moves with the wendigo, and suffers 1-6 damage each round at the start of the round. Each round, a gored creature may make a check as if to open a door to free itself.
Once per day, a Wendigo can emit a burst of cold causing 3-24 damage to any creature within 10′, or half as much damage on a successful save vs. breath weapon.
A creature surprised by a Wendigo must succeed on a saving throw against death magic or be struck with extreme hunger as if not having eaten for 3 days. Food stuffs exposed to a Wendigo spoil after one turn (10 minutes) of consecutive exposure.
Wendigo are susceptible to fire, which deals an additional 50% damage to them.
A Wendigo is unaffected by sleep, charm, hold, or cold-based spells. Holy water vials score 2-8 hit points of damage for each one which strikes. It is turned as a mummy.
I feel the need to return to my roots. I want to experiment with developing content for AD&D and maybe some other OSR content. I feel it is more suited to the kinds of survival and exploration content I want to create in the future. The monster flexibility also makes these designs closer Mind Weave designs for the Haven campaign.
