Biweekly Monster-Half Dragon Beasts

Let’s talk about the Half-Dragon template. Talk about a way to make a legendary creature living in an area of your world unique without having to give them their own stat block or plan how they are different tactically! Look at anything in the beast list with a CR of 2 and now you can have a giant lightning boar or a fire breathing elephant or (stretching things a bit) an acid breathing swarm of poisonous snakes just because some dragon got to some funny business while polymorphed. There are a ton of options, each of which would be a unique experience for the party in any world.

Half-Green Dragon Giant Ape

This giant ape will be a huge surprise to the party when it leaps out of the trees breathing poisonous gas before switching to fists when they close. The hunters back in town weren’t exaggerating about the size of the ape OR its noxious fumes.

Cunning Jungle Terror. This spawn of a giant ape and a half-dragon is cunning and imaginative. With rudimentary tools and a ruthless mind, it sets traps all over the jungle it considers its territory, resorting to fist and gas only as a last resort in its hunt.

Poison Breath (Recharge 5-6)The ape exhales poisonous gas in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw, taking 42 (12d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

I had at least half a dozen half-dragon beasts I wanted to do. I highly recommend looking through the beasts at the back of the Monster Manual (especially CR 2) and finding some highly unique half-dragons for your world.
