As the Raven’s Roost adventurers, finding themselves one of the primary entities rallying forces against the alien invasion, arrive at the ancient Lucanid dragon temple in their captured alien ships. They arrive to find only a single alien ship landed at the top of the artificial mountain at the temple entrance, but an alien base operating near the base of the mountain.
- Rathdar (ByW): Level 7 Human Vampire Paladin of Vardor
- Bilbil (RiH): Level 7/5/1/1 Harpy Thief/Alchemist/Technician/Tinker
- Amhran (BiW): Level 7 Fey “Pucca” Cleric of Emedia (God of the Dead)
They decide to approach the temple directly and eschew the base, for now. Seradal, flying their transport ship, lands near the other alien ship (also a transport) outside the open West doors, coming close enough for Rathdar to make it into the cockpit with a blink spell, bringing the level 2 undead pilot with him. Finding the cockpit empty, he leaves the pilot at the controls and searches the empty transport, seeing the robot guard outside has become curious about the newly arrived ship.
Meanwhile, Amhran and her crew of undead (pilot, gunners, technomancer, and Clarence) land near the South door where Amhran approaches and enters in alien form with Clarence following. She finds several robots in the dragon-themed temple and withdraws when they try to address her in the alien tongue, waiting outside for an opportunity.
On the empty ship, Rathdar manages to lure a couple of robots onto the ship and destroy them, but the third outside guard runs back to the temple, only to be crushed on the porch by Bilbil’s falling rock. When Rathdar rushes to enter the temple, heavy blaster fire makes him hesitate and Bilbil gives him a bomb when he hears they are clustered up. Unforunately, by the time Rathdar goes in, they have scattered a little.
Hearing the fight break out, Amhran enters, pretending to be an alien held hostage by Clarence. She is largely ignored as the robots desperately fight Rathdar with his sword of light and Bilbil with his visually targeted lasers. This allows Clarence to open fire with impunity while Amhran tries to find where the stairs down into the temple she saw on her first entrance disappeared to.
The party soon mops up the robots with minor damage and discovers that they have rotated the central statue dias to cover the stairs. Primarily through Rathdar’s might, they reveal the stairs again and prepare to descend.
The Primordial Frontier Campaign is set in the Perenia world of the Tyranny of Mundanity and Stormguard campaigns, but in a future where the world is characterized by wild magic below a mile above sea level. Sea level is the new underdark, and, well, I don’t suspect we’ll be seeing the underdark at all.
