On Febuary 8th, Year 6, with most of Citadel House emptied out of adventurers hired to escort an important gnome caravan, the remaining adventurers wake to hear an Ar-a-mach team infiltrating Citadel House itself:
- Ragnvaldr (TrS): Level 6 Human Fighter
- Subdued Owlbear
- Q (TrS): Level 5 Human Thief
- Polly (MiM): Level 2 Dwarf Brawler
- Edrej (MiM): Level 1/1 Gnome Magic-user/Alchemist
- Warren (MiM): Level 1 Dwarf Fighter
- Chiron (TrS): Level 1 Human Hunter
- Harold (MiM): Level 1 Halfling Thief
Q is the first to wake and gets up Harold, sending him to wake everyone else present while he goes toward the common room (where they are entering) to see what the situation is.
Most of the awakened adventurers go to helping Ragnvaldr quickly don his armor, but when Q hears them breaking into Matthias’ office across the tavern, he goes out through Verdis’ window and around toward Matthias’ office, arriving to find them searching Matthias’ desk. Back in the adventurer dorms, Edrej and Harold watch the gnomes searching rooms near the tavern and prepare an ambush at the corner.
Q’s ambush instantly slays the leader and he kills another near the safe, but an alchemist watching the door blows exploding embers at him, burning him and setting Matthias’ book shelves and desk alight. While Q battles soldiers to get the door closed in order to put the flames out, Edrej and Harold trigger their own ambush on the advancing soldiers.
Their opening salvo of fire gouts and crossbow bolts kills two of them and they hold the line until Edrej is out of spell points and enemy numbers threaten to overwhelm their meager melee combat abilities. They withdraw and Harold uses his magic shield to plug the hall while Edrej goes to help with the Ragnvaldr’s armor.
Harold runs out of spell points just in time for the armorers to finish and come out to hold the hall, followed closely by Ragnvaldr who comes out swinging. The Ar-a-mach who survive this onslaught attempt to flee, but once the adventurers get out of the building, they fall to their arrows.
Q informs the others that while he was putting out the fires he heard Dargos’ sensory extension in Matthias’ desk calling for help, saying his palace was being attacked. They send word to bring Rovert and Conan from Rovert’s tower and to get Verdis from Confluence so they can ride immediately to rescue Dargos from presumably Ar-a-mach captors.
This is the boldest and most desperate the Ar-a-mach have been in their struggles to awaken Luath Draoidh. They have been stumped at every turn by the Citadel House Adventurers and this may be their last gasp of effort.
