Insect Beacon. Forests where giant stick bugs dwell are noticeably more populated by all sorts of insects. The giant stick bugs are like kings to them and they rally to where these mighty bugs roam. The giant stick bugs benefit from the added protection these swarms of insects provide.
Impersonation. Giant stick bugs stay safe by looking like trees or, sometimes, like treants. This impersonation is not known to trouble treants in any way and they can sometimes be found coexisting in the same forest. If anything the presence of the stick bugs exaggerates the numbers of the treants and serves to further discourage the felling of trees.

Swarm of Insects Variant: Swarm of Stick Bugs
A swarm of stick bugs is proficient at Stealth checks, Stealth +3.
Call it lazy, call it focusing on modules, call it an experiment (the Monster Manual monsters seem hard pressed to fit into the guidelines given in the DMG), but I think this year I will instead of developing monsters largely from scratch focus on re-skinning monsters in the Monster Manual. This is a treant modified to be a giant stick bug instead.
Due to a loss is resistances (and vulnerabilities) I added 1 to the AC to make up for slightly low health on account of that. The treants awaken ability is very strong and I’m not sure summon insects matches it, but its reusability means it can catch up if the fight carries on long enough to use it 2 or 3 times. Probably a weaker, but funny, variant.
