Raglan’s Journal 29

With one opportunity seized already that morning, we took advantage of the flight spells already on us courtesy of the college mages and returned to that college to confront the ancient gold dragon there as well. We arrived to find no immediate sign of it, but when we flew over the college we saw a young green dragon, not the golden behemoth we sought.

The green dragon ignored Anduin’s inquiries (31 on a nat 20 Persuasion), but when I demanded it show Anduin respect (19+7=26 Intimidation) it approached, growing in size and revealing its true form, the gold dragon! It said we should not have returned and the battle began as I infected its mind with visions of flames and flew into a rage.

In the ensuing battle Sigfried was forced to withdraw, having taken great damage, but I held my place in the air above it, cutting wildly at its thick hide while Anduin threw flames and Juniper scorched it with a continuous ray of blinding light.

As we battled, the dragonborne sorcerer arrived but seemed too preoccupied to join the fight. He only cast a spell on the dragon and departed through the portal by which he came. It was soon after that that we slew the beast, only for it to vanish and a portal appear in its place.

Through the portal poured astrite golems that I couldn’t even distract with my attacks. We flew ahead and made one last search of the college for prisoners to rescue or artifacts to claim, finding some artifacts, and then departed, seeing that 50 of the 200 golems had come to claim the college. It is just as well, we had no intention of reclaiming a position so far behind enemy lines, and now there are fewer guarding the portal, for as much as that matters. Without our astrite dragon, I don’t know what hope we have to defeat even one of these golems.

Raglan’s 6th level in the College of Lore came with Additional Magical Secrets, in his case Warlock secrets. He has gained a Raven familiar and eldrich magics that reflect the depths to which he is willing to search for the power to win this war and make his place in the annals of history.

These journal entries are going to be in-character play reports from ByW’s campaign, which we alternated playing with the Tyranny of Mundanity campaign and now the Primordial Frontier campaign. My character, Raglan “the Light”, admires RiH’s character, Anduin Damian and follows him believing his place in history will be as a companion of the royal adventurer. He is impressed with their elven companion, Juniper (played by BiW), but does not know her well.
