After hearing Tiernan’s story in the Winged Anchor, the party consults with the officers of the Yuletide and their global navigational information to find a convenient path to the Eastern continent where they believe Lamila’s ask will be found, the last place she was known to be before travelling to the future.
- Rathdar (ByW): Level 6 Human Vampire (23) Cleric of Vardor
- Bilbil (RiH): Level 6/5/1 Harpy (16) Thief/Alchemist/Technician
- Amhran (BiW): Level 6 Fey “Pucca” (10) Cleric of Emedia
- Clarence: Level 11 Four-armed Skeleton Gunner with Revolvers
They determine that New Gollant, a flying city their two Clerics want to visit anyway, will soon be passing over that continent. They work out a course to intercept New Gollant by riding Devil’s Gate until it comes within a couple hours for a ferry (few ships are now traversing the world with the threat of constant raids from alien ships). The Yuletide is going to Devil’s Gate anyway to arrange a job and offers to take them.
In Devil’s Gate, they stay in Tiernan’s manor in a part of the city known as The Grit. Rathdar has his own tower in the castle-like manor, but Amhran and Bilbil stay in the guest wing. While Rathdar passes the five days they need to wait on Devil’s Gate in deep mediation and fasting, the other two do some shopping. Bilbil picks up a special stone from one of Havali’s contacts and Amhran looks for a red hood that can guide her, but learns that it has an extremely annoying intelligence and decides not to buy it.
The day comes for them to cross over the New Gollant and Rathdar emerges, his shadow gambeson transformed into a wide brimmed hat on his head. They all go together to the docks where they catch one of the many ferries to New Gollant. On the way, the ferries are attacked by three alien fighters! Bilbil and Rathdar fly out to confront the ships as they swoop down, shooting down one of the ferries.
The sun scorches Rathdar as he flies, but he reaches a ship clinging on and changing back. He wields Solus’ power to project a blade of light from the pilot’s console lights and kill the pilot before dropping away to follow the destroyed ferry below the cloud line. Once below the clouds, he takes bat form again to pursue the ferry.
Bilbil creates stone falcons that dive into one of the ships as they pull up from the attack, crashing through the cockpit and sending it into an uncontrolled climb past him as gunners fired on him. The other two fighters turn for another pass, one taking a little longer as a gunner runs to take the helm. This time, Amhran is ready with a powerful death spell she has been casting that kills the crew on one fighter while Bilbil drops more stone falcons to batter the other, which succumbs to defensive fire from the ferries.
Bilbil descends to help Rathdar gather the bodies from the crashed ferry into groups where Rathdar can hit them with a resurrection aura spell (Mind Weave magic has a LOT of flexibility). Meanwhile, the ferry they were on unloads most of its passengers to other ferries (the low lands are deadly, remember?) and with Amhran and a few volunteers descends to pick up the victims of the wrecked ferry.
While they load, a massive bug creature approaches, which they wound, prompting it to call dozens more. The ferry narrowly escapes before the bugs get too close, but Rathdar is has to cut strands of filament they spit at the ship so they can ascend. They continue on to New Gollant a little behind the others.
The Primordial Frontier Campaign is set in the Perenia world of the Tyranny of Mundanity and Stormguard campaigns, but in a future where the world is characterized by wild magic below a mile above sea level.
Sentient Skies, a module for 5th edition, has released. This sky battle used the mechanics for Ship Combat from Sentient Skies mixed with not ship units.
