Primordial Frontier S14: The New Mantle

After extensive individual interviews with Havali (conducted via chat) in which they revealed many of their secrets to him, the party passed a few days in the Temple of the Many Gods.

  • Rathdar (ByW): Level 5 Human (23) Cleric of Vardor
  • Bilbil (RiH): Level 5 Harpy (16) Thief/Roboticist
  • Amhran (BiW): Level 5 Human (10) Cleric of Emedia
    • Clarence: Level 11 Skeleton Gunner with Revolvers

Rathdar studies in the shrine to Vardor there, communing with Vardor personally as he appears to spar with Rathdar and discuss the war to come. Amhran adds a new shrine to Emedia, complete with an altar for restoring undead, and learns some of her expectations for the invasion. Bilbil passes the time studying his collection of robot parts.

When Havali dies, having passed on to them the mantle of repelling the space invaders, Rathdar releases him, preventing his body from ever being made undead. They bury him outside the temple and are about to start back toward Raven’s Roost when a dragon dives down into the canyon with them.

Him approaches with a peculiar request: to help him court the dragon Lamila, for which he needs a special gift, the axe she wielded in her first life. They agree to help in exchange for the dragon rallying other dragons to oppose the alien invasion.

The dragon gives them a ride back to Raven’s Roost, where the Yuletide has been waiting for them to arrive and protecting the town. After Rathdar’s grandfather, Tiernan, a dragon slayer, has an amicable meeting with the dragon, they return to the tavern and learn that the sky has become unsafe for travel and many towns have been lost. Invaders are everywhere.

We cut away to a flashback of the Yuletide in a sky battle as Tiernan retolls the story in the Raven’s Roost tavern.

  • Captain Saoirse (BiW): Level 10 Psionic Ospryte Thief
  • Tiernan (ByW): Level 10 Human Dragon Slayer
  • B4-R311 (RiH): Level 10? War Facsimile

While escorting a merchant vessel, the Yuletide spots two alien fighters screaming toward it. They engage, with focused fire soon disabling and disarming one while the Yuletide loses its starboard gun station. While Saoirse flies out toward the disabled ship, using her telekinesis to crush the remaining gun, Tiernan and his commandos are launched toward the last ship, Tiernan’s hammer leading the way in through the cockpit glass (one of them fails to get a grip on the ship, but is safely teleported back to the Yuletide).

After killing the pilot, Tiernan takes the controls. While his commandos deal with the gunners, he pilots the ship straight down into the ground. The Yuletide teleports he and the other commandos out before the crash. Finding all the aliens from the two ships dead in the wreckage, they continue on their way.

The Primordial Frontier Campaign is set in the Perenia world of the Tyranny of Mundanity and Stormguard campaigns, but in a future where the world is characterized by wild magic below a mile above sea level.

Sentient Skies, a module for 5th edition, has released. This sky battle used the mechanics for Ship Combat from Sentient Skies.
