Haven: Ghost Party

Having finally finished his castle on the hill overlooking the Citadel, Wraecliff invites many of the local people to daily open houses, including all of the members of Citadel House. On July 20th, a certain 4 adventurers attend the open house together:

  • Gorg (HuS): Level 3 Orc Thief
  • Warren (MiM): Level 1 Dwarf Fighter
  • Xygmeyer (KJW): Level 1 Human Druid
  • Algrif (KeG): Level 1 Dwarf Brawler

They arrive at the light lunch with a crowd of other arrivals, comporting themselves badly in civilized society in general, but not so badly that anyone takes offense. During the opening reception, Gorg notices one unusual elf keeping to the edges like he is. When he tries to sneak up on him, the elf calls him out and keeps his distance (HuS had an abysmal stealth roll).

After a tour of the mostly empty library built for Ada (which none of them shows any appreciation for except the prospect of selling books there if they find them), they head to the great hall for an early dinner. Their table manners are as atrocious as expected, Algrif taking a whole haunch to himself and Gorg hiding under the table while he eats.

While they eat, Warren sees a strange elf joining the quartet playing in the corner. He produces a flute and starts to play. As he plays, Warren is gripped with a terror that makes it hard for him to breathe. Soon, ghostly lizardfolk emerge through floor and start to attack the guests.

In the brawl that ensues, Warren’s restricted breathing keeps him from attacking the player, the person least disturbed by the arriving specters, but Algrif hurls a silver platter at him, ending the song and causing the elf to transform into a horned, hoofed creature with glowing red eyes. It calls in elvish for Wraecliff to release its fellow who he has prisoner and attacks, Wraecliff having just finished a specter fends him off.

In the remaining fight, the party takes little damage, though Gorg fights recklessly to draw as many as possible away from the bystanders. Wraefcliff makes a rallying cry that heals them all (the campaign’s first Stronghold Action), healing all of the guests and Gorg. With all of the specters handled, Gorg fires a crossbow at the unsuspecting fey battling Wraecliff, taking it in the head and killing it.

Wraecliff is grateful to them, feigns ignorance of the prisoner the fey spoke of, and pays them all. Gorg loots the fey, finding some trinkets familiar to fey enemies.

With the short session at an end, they distribute the loot. Gorg levels up.

The Haven year in review should be here soon. In the meantime, check out my newest module, Sentient Skies! It helps you bring an alien invasion to your world.
