Haven: Disturbing the Peace

With nothing urgent needing the attention of the Citadel House Adventurers, they can turn to some of the lingering threats in the area. June 1st, a group decides to go look into the spiders East of Iron Fields that Jacob Pharoe’s adventurers have been battling.

  • Rowan (MiM): Level 3 Elf Magic-user (Life and Death)
  • Gorg (HuS): Level 3 Orc Thief
  • Ragnvaldr (TrS): Level 1 Human Fighter
  • Xander (KJW): Level 1 Halfling Thief

By evening, they arrive in Iron Fields where they share a camp with with a few of Jacob Pharoe’s men returning from a spider hunt. On Ragnvaldr’s watch, he sees a gnome approach the back door of a house and enter, looking suspicious. Ragnvaldr stays up keeping an eye on the house and Xander (a new arrival who came with a letter warning that he was a criminal).

During Xander’s watch, he creeps to the house the gnome entered, Ragnvaldr following. He strikes the door, making it look like it disappeared. The gnomes conversing inside were startled to see a halfling standing where the door was. Xander flees and Ragnvaldr grabs him. He admits to trying to rob the house and Ragnvaldr takes him into custody. He decides to take him back to Citadel in the morning.

During Gorg’s watch, he steals a large axe from one of Jacob Pharoe’s men, hiding it in the woods. Ragnvaldr tries to keep an eye on him, but he hides his actions well with Ragnvaldr already distracted by Xander and the gnome house.

In the morning, while they are returning with Xander in Rowan’s bag, Gorg steals the bag with the intention of letting Xander out and a fight breaks out. Ragnvaldr uses his shields to trap the fight in a dome. Gorg uses a bottle of Smoke Water (from Who Would Just Leave this Stuff) to obscure the battle field and manages to get a Sneak Attack on Rowan, knocking him unconscious with a crossbow bolt through both thighs.

Gorg and Ragnvaldr go on to grapple with Ragnvaldr getting the upper hand until Gorg manages to struggle free. With a bad series of rolls for Gorg, Ragnvaldr manages to grab up his hammer and land a devastating blow that leaves Gorg unconscious. He tends to Rowan’s wounds and goes to Timberford to get a cart with which to move them all to Citadel, where Gorg claims misunderstanding as the cause of the conflict and Xander is put into house arrest.

New players seem to always introduce intraparty conflict, but I try to avoid it. In this case, KJW was such a comically foolish thief that it really seemed to work. We had a fun little scramble for a change of pace.
