In Hero Kids this week, the town of Rivenshore where the heroes live was attacked, presumably by agents of the Order of the Eye. It started with four bugbears (two warriors and two boulder throwers) coming into town, and I started to worry about how the next wave was going to go, because I stone dice were rolling way too many 6’s.
But with me switching to more standard dice and them using a potion, they managed to pull through in good enough condition to send in the dragon. Seeing the dragon hit the table freaked them out a little bit, but they confronted it, and while (S) went down, (C) was quick to get her a potion and they finished the dragon.
Rarely have I seen them so excited as when the townsfolk started to chant that they had killed the dragon and took them up on their shoulders and paraded them around. (S) was trembling with pride. This did prevent them looting or looking for notes, but they can be forgiven that oversight.
My next thing is to take a look at some of the prebuilt adventures and get them going on something serious.
Hero Kids is a great system for kids with a lot of great art. While I’m considering writing an article arguing that systems barely matter to the kind of fun most players chase, this is a good system if you’re looking to play with your kids.
