Raglan’s Journal 21

As I led the search of the vault, I came upon a creature I recognized instantly: a vampire. I charged into the battle, but was ashamed to be overwhelmed by the vampire’s hypnotic abilities. Thought I did not harm my companions, I did turn on them and try to prevent their spells from hurting the vampires.

They prevailed despite my meddling and we searched the large hall, finding sleeping quarters and a large map. Juniper and Anduin were exhausted from their arcane exertions throughout the day and so retired for a rest while I and our paladin companion kept watch, copying the unusual map.

Early in the watch, a sound alerted me that the fallen vampires had arisen and we rushed to strike them down. When that was done, though, the great doors off the hall we had left for later creaked open. I looked in to see more vampires, one of them seemingly their lord. We went and awakened Juniper and Anduin and launched an attack on the throne room. This time, I resisted their charm long, slaying many of them, but when I reached the last, the Vampire Lord, he was able to charm me.

I can only remember the rest of the battle through a haze, but I believe we were on the verge of failure. The House Damian knight and I were both charmed, I holding Anduin (transformed into a cat) and the knight slaying Juniper’s elemental. As I watched, Anduin’s astrite dragon was transformed into a butterfly and all hope of finishing the tattered lord seemed lost. Suddenly, from the hall before the throne room, Juniper’s arrow flew true, striking the creature between the eyes and slaying it. We all immediately recovered from our various ills and found ourselves having triumphed over the guardian.

In the great hall, Juniper reported that a light had begun to glow and we returned to find a portal shimmering there. We all entered with the help of Anduin’s astrite dragon, the key. Inside was the true vault, containing a wand of immense power, fueled by the same blood magic as the astrite portals to launch darts of force. Anduin has taken it, for now, but perhaps it should be my blood that fuels its fury against Tiamat.

These journal entries are going to be in-character play reports from ByW’s campaign, which we are going to alternate playing with the Tyranny of Mundanity campaign and the coming Primordial Frontier campaign. My character, Raglan “the Light”, admires RiH’s character, Anduin Damian and follows him believing his place in history will be as a companion of the royal adventurer. He is impressed with their elven companion, Juniper (played by BiW), but does not know her well.
