The Raven’s Roost Adventurers set out from the cottage, continuing North through deep jungle. Wild and magical animals move through the trees around them, but nothing seemingly hostile through the morning.
- Rathdar (ByW): Level 3 Human (23) Cleric of Vardor
- Bilbil (RiH): Level 3 Harpy (16) Thief/Roboticist
- Amhran (BiW): Level 3 Human (10) Cleric of Emedia
- Clarence: Level 5 Skeleton Gunner with Revolvers
Around noon, Rathdar and Bilbil hear something larger approaching through the trees, snapping branches in the high canopy. Bibil and Rathdar both fly to perches in the trees to watch for it approaching while Amhran and Clarence wait on the ground. While they watch, they see massive dark trunks swinging through the jungle, breaking off branches. Rathdar sees one, Bilbil a few.
Flying above the trees, Bilbil sees a massive insect striding with its body brushing the tops of the trees, heading South nearly parallel to their course northward. He also hears sounds like gunfire in the sky above the clouds to the West. He descends and tells the other and they sit quiet waiting for it to pass and hoping not to draw its ire. As it goes by, they hear the sounds of a craft tearing through the air.
Bilbil again flies above the canopy and sees a cruise ship descending out of the clouds, fires blazing it places as its guns flash, pointed toward the clouds behind. As he watches, two angular craft like those that attacked Raven’s Roost, but smaller and sleeker, leave the clouds, firing on the ship as they pursue. It looks like it will crash within a few miles of them, so the group takes off after it.
After almost an hour crashing through the jungle, dodging falling spores, toward the sounds of gunfire, they arrive in the impact trench and see the ship still battling the two much smaller attack ships, but near failing. Amhran sends Clarence to defend the ship itself and they all go on a counter offensive, Rathdar taking one ship and Bilbil and Amhran taking the other.
Rathdar approaches in bat form, transforming back in the air above the ship and attempting to cast a teleport in the air to get into the cockpit, but his heavy armor jostles his radius tracing (he isn’t a trained battle caster) and the spell fails, causing him to careen into the top of the ship and bounce off before changing back into bat mid fall.
Meanwhile, Bilbil carries Amhran close the cockpit of their craft and together they cast a death and material destruction blast through the walls of the craft. The spell instantly destroys the glass, shredding much of the interior and the controls. The craft starts to spin toward the ground and the pilot, not looking well himself, leaps from the open cockpit to a nearby tree.
While Bilbil sets Amhran in a tree to finish the pilot and flies to join Clarence defending the cruise ship against scuttling creatures Rathdar’s ship has dropped, Rathdar makes a second attempt. This time, he makes it into the cockpit, striking at the console with a divine blow. It’s tight quarters and the pilot is unable to escape Rathdar’s counterblows against his gunfire. Soon they both go down, the pilot cloven in two and Rathdar stable, but wounded with a hole shot through his armor. This craft crashes more gently as it slowly descends without a pilot.
At the cruise ship, Clarence fires into the swarm of facsimiles rushing toward him and though his shots stop a few, several clamber onto him, attacking with bladed legs. Bilbil comes to his aide, having cast a material destruction storm on his person that tears at the facsimiles. It isn’t fast enough to save Clarence, even though he hovers near him to have the maximum impact on those facsimiles. Clarence goes down.
With the help of small arms fire from the ship itself and the arrival of someone in a personal craft who takes out the guns firing on Bilbil from the crashing craft, Bilbil cleans up the remaining attacks. Having won her duel with the spell casting pilot, Amhran manages to climb out of the tree. She runs to Clarence and starts to gather his bones while Bilbil goes to pull Rathdar out of the crashed ship. Amhran joins him and heals the vampire. While they are gathered, the pilot of the personal craft, a Satyr, approaches with the captain of the cruise ship.
The Satyr attempts to get them to accept 1/3 of the credit for the rescue and hence 1/3 of the insurance reward money for saving the passengers of the cruise ship. Though Amhran is enthused and tries to argue for 3/4, Bilbil agrees to 1/2 for them and 1/2 for the Satyr. This seems fair, since without the Satyr’s arrival, they never would have known there was a reward to claim from the cruise’s insurance company.
While they have been negotiating, escape vessels (boost gliders with the range to get to safety) start to launch from the cruise ship. Soon, the party is left alone with the ship. They take up residence within, it being late afternoon, and Amhran starts to prepare an altar to Emedia on which to restore Clarence. Rathdar and Bilbil plan to search the wreck for treasures.
The Primordial Frontier Campaign is set in the Perenia world of the Tyranny of Mundanity and Stormguard campaigns, but in a future where the world is characterized by wild magic below a mile above sea level. Sea level is the new underdark, and, well, I don’t suspect we’ll be seeing the underdark at all.
