Having rebuffed the Starry Beings’ attack on the drow city of Umderlain, Hilbrent’s champions pass through Hilbrent’s portal to the besieged dwarven hold, Harvendep. They arrive to find the dwarves about to collapse the access to the portal room, as the enemy has breached the first few levels of defenses and they don’t want to the breach to expand to House Inylon. They say the invaders have some kind of siege creature that is making it impossible to hold the levels.

The champions rush toward the front, quickly destroying several Starry Beings in the dwarven tunnel, indicating a breach to this level. In the distance, they can hear the sounds of battle and they follow them, arriving in an intersection chamber where dozens of dwarves combat a three-headed creature standing head and shoulders through a hole in the floor to the level below. As peek around the corner, Doane casting spells on his pistols and Alfred preparing a poisoned bolt, a crystal in one of the three heads drives the dwarves from the battle.
They rush in, Doane firing off anti-magic encharged rounds in an attempt to deaden the apparently powerful crystals in each of the heads. Lamila rushes to engage it, but fails to keep it in the floor below as Lucy sings and his companions shoot down Starry Beings flying up through the hole. Alfred’s poison creates a cloud that removes their ability to fly, preventing any more coming up through the hole, while Doane encharges the pistols again, managing to knock out the lights in two of the head-crystals. Lamila, failing to break the last crystal, is nearly thrown into the pit from the golem’s back, but catches the edge. Alfred, caught out in the open alone as he repositioned to attack Starry Ones behind the golem, is hypnotized by the remaining head, then grabbed and hurled against the wall with a force that almost drives him from consciousness.
While Lucy’s followers prevent Starry Ones pressing up through the fading cloud of poison, Doane finishes another encharge and squeezes off shots that kill the last head, dropping the golem. Dwarves soon arrive to close the breach and dismantle the golem before it awakes. With the party present and the golem destroyed, the dwarves of Harvendep counterattack, forcing the invaders to flee the lower levels of the city they had captured.
The Tyranny of Mundanity campaign is just about over. Saturday we’ll be playing the finale, then an epilogue night a couple weeks after that. We’re all excited for the final conflict, and I know some players are eager for another epilogue night. The struggle is trying to keep them from getting overshadowed by the prospect of the next campaign.
