In the aftermath of the battle to save the slaves, we learned from them that the last Death Slaad had fled back toward the city in the chaos! We could not stand to let it escape and inform them. With Anduin’s magics to give me speed, I gave pursuit, but Anduin in dragon form soon flew ahead. Juniper, however, in the form of an animal with speed like I have never seen, passed us both, tackling our quarry! While she kept it occupied, Anduin and I arrived to finish the foul creature. It seems our ambush wasn’t perceived.
We accompanied the refugees to their camp, a magically warded cave of Invern’s making, apparently in gratitude for our having cleared the astrite city for him. At least he pays those who have done well for him. I fear we will need his help soon, for while we slept, dire news came to us from two fronts. Gordon received word that the college had suffered great losses due to betrayal. He implored us to help, but what means to we have to get there? In any case, we are desperately needed here, for while we discussed what could be done, Aman arrived with more terrible news. The massive astrite golems the cultists have been creating are awakening, and to make matters worse, the portal pillars seem to be complete. Scouts had seen them escorting scores, perhaps hundreds of slaves to the portal to open it with their blood. We desperately need to stop this atrocity.
Aman is gathering his forces even now to make an attack against the camp and prevent the slaughter. I fear the battle will be a slaughter, even with our strength, so we have gone to the astrite city where we now strive to help Invern open the vault. We hope to find some mighty aid therein, or at least something that pleases Invern enough to convince him to help us in the coming battle. In any case, if we survive this fight, it will be a great triumph against the forces of Tiamat. That achieved, perhaps we will ready to return to the South to fight battles of a more political nature. We stand on the verge of great victory, or great disaster.
These journal entries are going to be in-character play reports from ByW’s campaign, which we are going to alternate playing with the Tyranny of Mundanity campaign. My character, Raglan “the Light”, admires RiH’s character, Anduin Damian and follows him believing his place in history will be as a companion of the royal adventurer. He is impressed with their elven companion, Juniper (played by BiW), but does not know her well.
