With war breaking out in the underdark they recently escaped, Hilbrent enchants equipment for the party. Doane’s pistols he empowers with greatly improved accuracy. Lucy’s backpack he gives an aura of accuracy improvement. Lamila’s trident, Laithe’s Wrath, Hilbrent usurps, raising it to its original power when Lamila had Laithe’s approval and beyond. Alfred’s crossbow receives a complex gaseous medium enchant that allows it to aerosolize whatever poison he tips his crossbow bolts with.

As intelligence comes in to the Vardor Pantheon war room, three potential objectives for the party become clear:
- Rescuing the overrun Lolithian Cabal forces and outlaw groups in the area surrounding the crystals.
- Joining the fight in the drow city Umderlain, which if it falls will provide a path to the other drow cities.
- Defending the dwarf city of Harvendep, which though well fortified contains a path to the surface for the attacking star beings.
They determine that the unfortified caves near the crystals are a lost cause and with Hilbrent opening a portal between the strongest Umderlain house and Fourth Circuit of Harvendep (whose defenses should hold for at least a while) they travel to House Inlyon in Umderlain where they find starry beings overrunning the city. Refugees flood toward House Inlyon and the other remaining houses and while Alfred remains behind to join in dissecting a starry being body the Inlyon scientists have recovered intact, hoping to find a poison that affects them, Lamila, Doane, Lucy, and his followers sally forth from House Inlyon (whose installed defenses so far discourage any attack) to provide cover to the harassed citizens fleeing from the fallen houses to other houses.
Their arrival takes the starry attackers by surprise and they do significant damage while escorting the refugees to the next house over where they rally the defenders. As the attack against that house dwindles, the party makes its way to the next house, which has begun to bear the brunt of the attack. They arrive to find its occupants about to abandon the defenses, but Lucy rallies them back to the walls and they begin to turn the tide. In the fierce fighting that follows, Ecrin gets cut off and falls, but Lamila revives her. Exhausted, she withdraws to the house command tower, where she telepathically relays information to Lucy, including that the house commanders are considering withdrawing to another house as their forces flag.
With some magic expenditure on the part of the party and a strong performance on the part of the defenders, they manage to solidify the house’s defense, while most of the attackers are slain. With the house defense stabilized, but the house they left before now starting to struggle, Lucy and his followers stay to ensure the house doesn’t falter again while Lamila and Doane return to the small house between them and House Inlyon. They arrive just in time to help cover the withdrawal from that house toward House Inlyon. With the attack on his house all but over, Lucy leads his followers to go help the retreat to Inlyon. While he is on his way, stone ones attack the fleeing citizens, forcing Doane and Lamila to come to the front of the column to deal with them, but Lucy and his men are able save the rear from passes.
With the last of the enemy’s efforts spent in trying to capitalize on the citizens being out in the open, the battle for Umderlain is won! They hear reports that three layers of Harvendep’s defenses have been breached and hurry through the portal before the enemy can capture the other end of it. Next session, the fight to reclaim lower Harvendep.
The Tyranny of Mundanity campaign is 2ish sessions away from the end. This session was mostly executed with some ad hoc mass combat rules, since I still haven’t refined them since the Siege of Rathad Oidhche. The battle next time will see some more of that, but perhaps more thought out, as well as some one-on-one combat to let the party use its enchants more directly.
