Biweekly Monster-Lightning Fisher

Lightning Fishers are lightning-empowered, giant, insectoid creatures with claws and a gland for extruding a conductive, sticky silk with which they fish for their prey. They prefer to await the passage of prey in tight places with a high perch from which they can launch their silky strand and capture prey before shocking it to death. If prey proves resilient or dangerous at range, they may close to melee quarters and use their claws. They often hunt in small groups.

Adhesive Filament. The lightning fisher can have one filament extended at any time that adheres to anything it touches. Any creature adhered to by the filament is considered grappled (escape DC 13 at disadvantage). The filament can be attacked (AC 12; 3 hit points; immunity to poison, lightning, and psychic damage), but successful hits with bare skin or metal weapons result in 3 (1d6) lightning damage and any weapon that does not sever it is adhered, requiring an action and a successful DC 13 Strength check to pull free or take 3 (1d6) lightning damage. If a filament is destroyed, the lightning fisher can extend another.

Death SurgeWhen the lightning fisher dies, each creature touching its filament suffers 7 (2d6) lightning damage.

Spider Climb. The lightning fisher can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Actions

Multiattack. The lightning fisher makes two attacks with its claws.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack. +5 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit: 10 (2d6+3) slashing damage.

Extend Filament. Ranged Weapon Attack. +3 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) lightning damage and the target is grappled.

Shocking Filament. As a bonus action, the lightning fisher can charge the filament with lightning energy. All creatures grappled by the lightning fisher’s adhesive filament suffer 7 (2d6) lightning damage.

Continuing in my vein of semi-intelligent, magically-imbued creatures, I’ve taken an old favorite and given it some lightning.
