Having cleverly eluded the patrols on this side of the mountains, we continued Northwest along the feet of the mountains for a couple days. It is a barren and quiet land and nothing befell us until on the third day we came upon a small stone building upon the planes. The masonry of it was extremely high quality and the stone not locally sourced.
My curiosity got the better of me and with a light on my shield I entered the building. I was immediately closed inside and I admit that as my search for escape failed, I panicked and tossed the room in a frenzy. When the light expired, however, the door opened again and I was able to escape.
While I refused to enter again, Juniper boldy crossed the threshold. She was not trapped as I was, validating her theory that my light spell had caused the door to close.
She approached the chest on the table that I had eschewed and took a coin from it. The door closed! When it opened again moments later, she was gone! At this point I overcame my fear and entered without the light, taking my own coin and feeling myself yanked to a dark place. Juniper was there, though I could not see her, and we did not know whether to create a light, since she could see no danger.
When Anduin appeared with us (he had the foresight to bring the horses, lest we be separated), I felt compelled to make a light. When the light appeared, we were no longer in the narrow corridor, but rather a temple hall. The stench of the corpses strewn about it was overwhelming and though Anduin was strong enough to stomach it, Juniper and I were incapacitated. With Anduin’s royal comfort, I was able to resolve myself and move about the temple.
Behind the altar, I found a chain-covered humanoid who immediately attacked. I entered a rage and engaged him while Anduin bolstered me with Haste. When his spell ended, the temple vanished and I found myself alone in a corridor. I hurried to find Anduin, slaying zombie creatures that might have threatened him. Anduin, realizing how we had found ourselves there, cast another spell and returned us to combat with the chain creature. With Anduin’s strategic use of spells to get us in and out of this fight, Juniper and I were able to slay the chain creature in short order.
With no sign of exit in the temple, Anduin transported us again to the zombie labyrinth…
To be continued.
These journal entries are going to be in-character play reports from ByW’s campaign, which we are going to alternate playing with the Tyranny of Mundanity campaign. My character, Raglan “the Light”, admires RiH’s character, Anduin Damian and follows him believing his place in history will be as a companion of the royal adventurer. He is impressed with their elven companion (played by BiW), but does not know her well.
