A second tier option for thieves and fighters that focuses on melee combat and quick killing. They may use ranged weapons, though not with the skill of rogues in general. They are less able to withstand blows from enemies than a combative class like fighter, ranger, or paladin, but with a stealthy approach and steady hand they are able to dispose of foes before they can retaliate.
Whether a well trained killer or simply a hardened criminal who tired of mere thieving, assassin’s know the trade of death perhaps better than any. They will often employ it to their profit by seeking out freelance killing work or in the employ of a government or rich benefactor. Whatever the case, they keep to the shadows and kill in quiet.
