“My Lord, I fear our mission was a failure and we have only angered the Troop of Fire. They are coming here now.”
“Very well, we shall prepare for them. Their horses will require a week to carry them here.”
“MY LORD! A sails appear on the horizon!”
“But the ocean is miles— Man the walls! Everyone to your posts!”
If you don’t know the Mind Weave enchanting rules, this resource will help you keep up: Enchanter’s Almanack. If you’re not sure if you know the Mind Weave enchanting rules, then you don’t. As of right now there are maybe 3 or 4 of us, and even I need to consult the Almanack from time to time (and I wrote it).
The Sky Schooner Intrepid was the flagship in the fleet of an ancient empire. It was made of the finest, most durable materials and had served two emperors. They intended it to last forever as the leader of their fleet. However, during its service to a third emperor, it became clear that it could not match the newer ships for speed. It was due for an upgrade. An enterprising enchanter came forward, and for an exorbitant fee offered to grant the ship flight. After a month of enchanting effort, he had granted the ship flight and was richly rewarded. With a flying ship, the empire grew bold, striking out into distant territories over land and sea. The ship was eventually lost and not heard from again. It is not known if it was destroyed or simply left unused by unintelligent orcs it had been hunting.
Components: Ru, Wa, Juo, Wind (Full)x3, , Oh (Advanced Wind Arc)x4, Ros (Advanced Travel Radius)x2
Understand Artifact: 90 to understand understand that the ship can fly, 100 to determine that the sails must be up for it to support itself and that the pitch is controlled by the front and rear anchors. The rudder controls acceleration, both to increase and reduce speed, and to turn.
The Sky Schooner Intrepid is the fastest constant-flight enchantment possible in Mind Weave (that can be used normally, a significantly faster enchantment can be made by making such a ship that does not function as a ship in water). This is primarily a function of its size, but I also put all the wind power possible into it used in the same manner as a flight spell. With a total of 210 mph wind, the first 125 mph are used to keep the ship from falling and the remaining 85 mph are applied to acceleration. This means that it’s maximum speed if 85 mph (124 feet per second) and it has a per second acceleration of 21.76 feet per second from a standstill. Like all flight in Mind Weave, it requires 8 seconds to reach 91.64% of its maximum speed and 15 seconds to reach 99.57% of its maximum speed.
The speed from second to second is found by
This equation also determines the braking time and turning radius of vessels at various speeds. Since I find it interesting, I will be doing a more in depth analysis of these implications for Mind Weave flight in a coming post, when I get the time.
How’d you like seeing an enchantment? How would you like to find the Sky Schooner Intrepid half buried in an orc valley? Would you make your own flying ship? What enchantments would you make? Tell us below and we may do it in a coming week.
