Character Thursday-Fordi and Filmen Deeger (Halfling Bards)

This week I’m going to use more of Richard’s work on fun characters.  This one is particularly special to me because it shows an effective character can be made with absolutely no magic at all.  In this case it’s more fun with two (2) characters, twins:

Fordi Deeger-Level 9 Halfling Bard

Strength: 8, Constitution: 10, Dexterity: 20,

Wisdom: 12, Intelligence: 18, Charisma: 30

Abilities: Emulate VIII, Gather Followers II, Battle Song IV, Convince III, Encourage III, Lie IV, Haggle II, Lock Picking II, Pick Pocket III, Play Instrument/Sing III

Skills: Diplomacy I, Perception II, Stealth II, Agility II

Filmen Deeger-Level 9 Halfling Bard

Strength: 10, Constitution: 12, Dexterity: 20,

Wisdom: 12, Intelligence: 18, Charisma: 28

Abilities: Emulate VII, Gather Followers III, Battle Song II, Convince II, Encourage III, Lie IV, Haggle II, Lock Picking II, Pick Pocket II, Play Instrument/Sing III

Skills: Diplomacy I, Perception II, Stealth II, Agility II

Backstory:

The Deeger twins are almost entirely defined by their amicable rivalry.  They spent their entire youth trying to one up each other. Their community found it adorable for many years and they were always the best entertainment in the talent shows.  Their competition led them to grow rapidly through adolescence and into adulthood, building skills in a variety of areas.  Their popularity grew equally and by adulthood they were well known for miles around.

When a threat arose in the area, it was only natural for the populace to look to the Deeger twins to protect them.  The twins gathered what forces they could from the area and set out to engage the enemy.

Here we see Gather Followers being applied.  To be true to my statement that they are effective without magic, we will assume there were no mages available in their community to be recruited and they are forced to go with other kinds of companions.  We’ll go ahead and limit them to Fighters, Brawlers, and Thieves.  These will be mostly low level, many level 0.  Their tactic is to use Battle Song to empower their followers who fight on the front line, but also to use a number of level 0 archers to not only deal damage, but to stop any enemy mages from casting.

They also have Emulate, an ability we haven’t discussed.  It is an ability that allows a character to use Charisma to imitate any ability used by someone while being observed by the emulator.  The emulator temporarily learns that ability.  Spell Points can be used so that this temporary learning can be at an even higher level of performance that the original user.  The Deeger twins use all of their SP trying to outperform each other.  This ability also means that the two can emulate enemies or followers and use temporary abilities to engage directly if needed.

The primary weakness of this magicless pair is a lack of healing.  A follower with Lay on Hands, like a paladin, could solve this, but could also be hard to come by.

Did you like seeing a higher level character?  Let us know below.  We’ll do more in coming weeks.
